All dogs are spayed/neutered and vaccinated prior to adoption. Several have received additional medical care as well. The standard adoption fee is $175.00. However, the fee can easily be adjusted for seniors and dogs with special needs. It may also be slightly higher for young, purebred dogs. The adoption fee helps us provide care for the foster dogs in our program as well as other dogs in the community. The adoption fee is only refundable within 7 days of adoption if a vet finds a medical issue that you are unwilling or unable to treat, and refunded when the dog is returned to Augusta Dog Adoptions. We ask potential adopters to fill out a short application that can be found under the Adopt link (or just to go directly to the application). If a match is made, adopters are asked to sign a contract stating that they will provide all necessary care. If they are unable to do so they must contact Augusta Dog Adoptions to discuss rehoming options. All dogs are adopted out as family members. They are not to be kept exclusively outdoors. They must be allowed inside of the household.

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria took in six of the 86 dogs that came from storm-ravaged North Carolina and is inviting the community to join in on the relief efforts. The shelter has waived all adoption fees for dogs through 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, as part of its “Storm Surge” adoption event.

Step 4: Home Check. The review committee will determine if a home check will be conducted. If so, a volunteer will contact you, normally no later than Tuesday or Wednesday evening to arrange for a mutually agreeable time to do your home check.
NOTE: Animal Friends - VA makes every attempt to schedule home checks in a timely manner. Please understand that we are all volunteers who have families, jobs, pets, etc. that may affect our ability to conduct your home check as quickly as you would like. It is our goal to place the newly adopted pets as quickly as possible – we feel this is best for both the pet and the adoptive family (not to mention it frees up a space for us to save another dog or pup!) Your patience is appreciated.

You can meet your prospective new family member at our weekly adoption events which are held every Saturday. Please see the schedule and addresses below and watch this space for updates.
It's a good idea to submit in advance a non-binding online application for any dog you're particularly interested in. We can't always bring all of our dogs to events and those with interest in them get priority.
If you might be interested in pursuing your application at the event, please bring a hard copy of your completed application with you, as well as all members of your household so all can be present for the interview/s. In most instances, it's a good idea to bring you present dog/s, if any, with you so they can weigh in on the decision. You may address any questions you might have to . OPH will have its first event with our new friends at Pet Valu in Fairfax. Come by and meet some of our adoptable dogs and chat with our volunteers about adopting, fostering or volunteering! There is a self-serve bath station at this location - bring your furry friend too! We hope to see you there!
